We’re always here for you

At the Residence, we understand that our patients aren’t the only ones who need our care and attention. We offer bereavement support groups that are open to the community and supportive phone calls to all family members and friends of patients.

These essential services recognize that grief and mourning are a normal reaction to loss and require support too.

Getting help during tough times

We offer support following the loss of a loved one. Our bereavement groups are open to the community.

Compassionate support calls are made several times during the year following a death at the Residence. Our highly trained bereavement call volunteers provide emotional support by listening and reassuring that we are there during the difficult mourning period.

It’s essential for people to feel they are not alone and be able to share with and be supported by others.

Our bereavement groups are offered several times a year at the Residence and are divided by age group and language (English or French). They may also be held online when required. All sessions are offered free of charge.

The group format allows participants to support each other and are led by a member of the Supportive Care team. The group size is limited to ten participants, and the groups run for eight weeks.

We also offer a day-long children’s group once a year and a young adult group for participants 18-30 years old.

Our social workers and art therapist also lead other bereavement activities such as:

Walking with grief is a walking group that allows participants to reflect while in motion in nature and share with others who have lived an experience of loss.

Growing with grief is a group that helps grieving individuals reconnect with nature and break social isolation through gardening projects.

The process of grief is highly individual.
Our diverse bereavement programs adapt to the needs of each person's unique journey.

Growing with Grief

The open art studio has moved into the garden!

The garden can offer a space for discovery and self-expression. A sanctuary for overwhelming thoughts and feelings. A place to slow down and embrace nature. A place to be awed by life and death. A place to connect with others and with our deceased loved ones.

This bilingual art and gardening program is open to adults who have experienced loss. It is a drop-in program and is offered every Friday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm beginning May 26th. No gardening or art experience is necessary.

Please contact Sarah Tevyaw, Art Therapist, at 514 693-1718 ext. 231 or stevyaw@tdpcr.ca for more information.
