Canadian ministers explore compassionate care at the Residence

In recent weeks, we’ve been thrilled to welcome the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Canadian Minister of Health, as well as the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Canadian Minister of Seniors, to the Residence and give each a glimpse into the work that we do here: providing compassionate palliative care for our community. Francis Scarpaleggia, MP for Lac-Saint-Louis and longtime supporter of the Residence, accompanied the Ministers during each of their visits.

Members of the leadership team at the Residence presented our consolidation project, which will bring our two sites together under one roof to house our 23 beds. Dale Weil, Managing Director of the Montreal Institute for Palliative Care also highlighted what’s happening with the Institute and its first ever research project, Compassionate Communities. We shared some of the ways the Institute is working to extend our knowledge to other communities and care settings to support our goal of increasing access to comprehensive, quality palliative care for all.

On April 11, 2018, the Residence launched its 2017-2018 Capital Campaign, Caring and Sharing – Under One Roof. The campaign aims at raising $12.5 million in order to consolidate our two separate locations into a single, state-of-the-art facility, and to share best practices in palliative care through the creation of a National Education and Knowledge Transfer Program.

Caring & Sharing - Under One Roof, exceeds its goal and raised XX millions

June 2018 marked a defining moment for the future of the West Island Palliative Care Residence. Hundreds of supporters, volunteers and employees of the Residence came together to celebrate the start of construction to consolidate its two separate locations into a single, expanded facility housing all of its 23 beds under one roof.

With 16 years of leadership and service, the Residence is now poised to redefine palliative care locally and to increase capacity and access to quality palliative care across different care settings and communities in Canada. The Residence will achieve this through its new cost-efficient facility to accommodate its evolving needs and to share best practices in palliative care through the recently launched Montreal Institute for Palliative Care

Thank you to our Campaign leadership

As Co-Chairs of the West Island Palliative Care Residence’s 2017-2018 major fundraising campaign, worked together to enable Caring & Sharing – Under One Roof.

Together with the Residence’s dedicated team and volunteers, we are putting patient needs above all else and showing the very essence of quality end-of-life care. Together with the families and loved ones of patients, we are carrying the message that patients should be able to live out their final days in peace, dignity and serenity. Together with our generous donors, we are helping the Residence pursue its essential mission and extend the benefits of palliative care to an ever-growing number of patients and families.

Thank you to the Campaign Cabinet and generous donors who made this possible.
