After two years of holding this event virtually, hundreds of community members gathered in Valois Park, Pointe-Claire to cheer on participants. A record-breaking $186,400 net was raised, which will be directed to providing quality palliative care to patients and support for their families.<\/p><p>\u00a0 <br \/>The Course allows participants of all ages and abilities to take part in 1K, 5K, 10K or 15 K walk\/run and create personal crowdfunding pages to raise funds for the Residence. \u201cThe beauty of this race is that anyone in the community can participate and contribute, whether it be running, walking, volunteering, sponsoring, or promoting\u201d, said Debbie Elvidge, the founder of the Course pour la Compassion. Debbie began this initiative after having experienced the wonderful care her father received at the Residence, back in 2017. The Course pour la Compassion rapidly became a signature event for the Residence.<\/p><p>\u00a0 <br \/>\u201cI am so thankful to everyone who participated in this event. Today was a perfect example of the wonderful things we can accomplish when everyone in the community comes together,\u201d said Dale Weil, Executive Director of the Residence. \u201cAs we continue celebrating our 20th anniversary, we cannot express enough thanks to our supporters, volunteers, sponsors and colleagues who are the reason the Residence is able to continue providing our patients and their families with the quality palliative care they deserve,\u201d added Dale.<\/p><p>\u00a0 <br \/>Major sponsors of the event included Pfizer Canada, the City of Pointe-Claire, Charles River Laboratories Inc., National Bank and Uniprix.<\/p><p>\u00a0 <br \/>The event was graciously hosted by Sharon Hyland from CHOM FM and Sandra Hudon. Top fundraisers were announced, and a fun warm up was held before the initial race kick off at 8:15 a.m.<\/p><p>\u00a0 <br \/>About the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence: The Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence is an independent, non-profit organization that provides services free of charge to patients and their families. The Residence relies on community support and fundraising activities to raise about $4 million each year, to complement our government subsidy. With its 23 beds, the Residence is the largest free-standing palliative care facility in Canada and is recognized as a leader in its field.
