Our purpose
Created in 2018, the Montreal Institute for Palliative Care is a branch of the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence.
The Institute is the Residence’s way of ensuring that community members benefit from palliative care by using and sharing its professionals’ experience while learning from evidence-based practices. Together, they are leaders in the art of compassionate care.
From demystifying what palliative care is, to helping communities and other care settings understand how to improve their practices, the Institute strives to engage and mobilize various stakeholders to become key advocates and active participants in this care model.
Our approach
The Institute works to improve palliative care capacity, capability, and quality to benefit our community and further the Residence as a Centre of Excellence. Our integrated model, which combines the clinical practice and expertise of the Residence with our many collaborators and programs, contributes to advancing palliative care across multiple communities and care settings, with associated societal benefits.

Consultation
Consultation allows us to build on evidence-based practices and ensure we work on the most impactful projects. An Advisory Committee comprised of experts from across Canada guides us toward success.
Care and Compassion
Care and compassion are fundamental for all our palliative care efforts at the Residence and the Institute. Everything we do is meant to support our patients and families.
Collaboration
A strong palliative care community is ready to work with us, and we build within that existing framework. We are proud to work with leaders in the field, including the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’île-de-Montréal, McGill University, and l’Université de Montréal.
Our three pillars
The Institute is proud to offer valuable palliative care programs from its location within the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence and to work hand in hand with the Residence’s highly specialized team. The Institute works to increase awareness for and continuously improve palliative care quality, access and capacity through education, knowledge exchange, research, and advocacy for the benefit of Canadians.
