Invisible Suffering:
Grief Among Healthcare Professionals Working in Palliative Care

September 25, 2025
12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

This session will be presented in French by:
Dr. Marie Solange Bernatchez, Ph.D.

This presentation aims to raise awareness among professionals working in palliative care about the repeated experiences of grief they are exposed to in their daily practice. While caregivers are trained to support patients and their loved ones through the many losses they endure, the effects of these grief experiences on their own well-being often go unrecognized. The concepts of compassion fatigue and moral injury will be explored to better understand and acknowledge the impact of repetitive grief on healthcare providers. Reflective insights and practical strategies will be offered to foster emotional adaptation and support professional sustainability in palliative care.

Please note that this session will be offered in French.
The presenters are bilingual and will be able to answer all questions in English.
